I sometimes use .txt for some notes or ASCII art, just to remind myself when I see the file months or years after that it's just text, as opposed to for example a script, for which I don't use extensions. But now that I know it, it's an interesting thing to know. Web search engines sometimes (more often than not) disappoint me; especially those that don't track me.
