Now this message is definitely a problem. You can also see this kernel 
message:

PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device f9, VID=8086, DID=266f

Which I would guess is at the root of the problem. Maybe you should try 
a 2.6.x kernel since it does contain newer hardware drivers than a 2.4.x 
kernel.

Well you must know what IDE controller you have in order to select it in 
the kernel configuration. Usually most of the ide controllers are added 
to the kernel since it is a very common device on many PC's. The command 
"lspci -vv" would also try to identify PCI hardware.
